"We would look out over the immense sea ... each of us far way, flying in his own aircraft to the stratospheric regions of his own dreams. There we understood that our vocation, our true vocation, was to move for eternity along the roads and seas of the world. Always curious, looking into everything that came before our eyes, sniffing out each corner but only ever faintly- not setting down roots in any land or staying long enough to see the substratum of things; the outer limits would suffice."
Thailand and Singapore 2012
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain
The beginning of another journey! Charlie and I will be taking off on August 8th, on different planes because we clearly want to spend 20 hours traveling on planes alone (oh well, free flights using miles won out), and we'll be spending a little bit of time in Singapore before heading to Ao Ton Sai, Thailand, to climb for two weeks before I leave Charlie there with our friend Josh and head back to school.
I'm looking forward to returning to Thailand, the last time I was there I was 16 and not mature enough to understand the culture I think. And Singapore seems like such an eclectic mix of cultures, I can't wait to see how the city has combined so many racially driven religions and cultures.
While this trip is focused mostly on climbing, it is also my final few weeks of summer fun before returning to the real world of studying and writing papers for school.
I'll update as often as possible on our climbing achievements and adventures on our rest days.
